Carmella  Merrill  Stevenson (Merrill)
Carmella Merrill Stevenson, 84, of Freehold passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. Carmella was the daughter of the late Michael and Jennie Merrill in Westfield, where she lived for seventy-five years until moving to Freehold in 2005. She was a graduate of Westfield High School, Class of 1947. Carmella was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield for over fifty-eight years. She was a bookkeeper and sales associate at Auster’s Appliance Store, Westfield for thirty-six years before her retirement. Carmella enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and playing cards with her friends. She was an avid sports enthusiast, especially watching RAW Wrestling, the NY Giants, and the Yankees. But more than anything, she loved watching her grandchildren grow up to be wonderful young adults.
Carmella was predeceased by her husband, retired Lt. Thomas P. Stevenson of the Westfield Fire Department in 2008 and a grandson, James Stevenson Warnock in 2007. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Stevenson-Warnock and James Warnock of Freehold; her grandchildren, Jessica L. Warnock of Coventry, Rhode Island and Michael P. and Thomas A. Warnock, both of Freehold; and younger twin sisters, Mary Morse of Freehold and Jane Starr of Rahway.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:30 AM graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, 1100 East Broad Street, Westfield on Friday, September 6, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Stevenson Warnock Memorial Scholarship , Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD), c/o The Warnock Family, 91 Harding Road, Freehold, NJ 07728 and would be appreciated.
