81, of Halifax passed away on Saturday December 17, 2016 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Lawrence Bernard and Rose Minerva (Atkins) Scanlan. Bernie worked his life with the Federal Government, Public Works, Revenue Canada - Taxation, and the Department of National Defense (CFB Stadacona) from where he retired. During his retirement he would volunteer preparing tax returns and was a long-time member of the Spryfield Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152. Survived by his wife Patricia (Shankel); sons, Bruce (Sara) Waterloo, Ontario; Peter, Ottawa; grandchildren, Laura, David and Audrey; brother, Joe, South Carolina. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday December 21st and Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday December 22nd both in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Rev. Laurie Omstead officiaiting. Burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Hubbards. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to QEII Health Sciences Foundation, Halifax.
