Obituary for Clarence White Atkinson

Clarence W. Atkinson, 95, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.

He served during WWII in the U.S. Army, and was retired from N&W Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his son, Roger D. Atkinson; parents, Dock Isaac White Atkinson and Clara Jewell Atkinson; brother, Taylor Atkinson; and sisters, Bonnie Henson, Merle Bean, and Marion Janney.

His surviving family includes his wife of 71 years, Janice Oxley Atkinson; children, Sandra A. Anderson and husband, Walt, and Mark R. Atkinson and wife, Ponza; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Russell, Hampton, and Scott Atkinson.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Salem Terrace and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their loving care.

A period of visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Monday, December 26, 2016 in the chapel at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. His funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Pentecost officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville.
