Dear Susan, You won't remember me, but we have met a couple of times over the years, and have a mutual friend in John Oldham. Tom's books and his newspaper columns meant a great deal to me, and I would sometimes write or email him to tell him how much I appreciated a particular one. Fourteen years ago I had written and told him that our daughter-in-law was dying from lymphoma, and would leave behind two young daughters for our son to raise alone. Tom replied with words of comfort and support. When Lisa did die, a good friend, unbeknownst to me, emailed Tom to tell him of our tragedy. Soon after, a beautiful card of sympathy arrived from Tom and you. I still have the card. I just want to tell you how much Tom will be missed, and how greatly his writings added to my spiritual growth and understanding of life. With sympathy, Cathie McBride
