Life Story for Linda S. "Lynn" Murphy (Butler)

Linda S. "Lynn"  Murphy (Butler)
Linda S. "Lynn" (Butler) Murphy, age 76, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on December 13, 1940 in Kentucky on her grandparent's farm on Patton's Creek. She was the loving daughter of the late James W. and Ruth (Wheeler) Butler. She was born and raised in Trimble County, Kentucky, and was a 1959 graduate of Hanover High School in Hanover, Indiana. After graduation from high school, Linda graduated from Porter Business School in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduation, she started working at the state house in Indianapolis for two years.

She married in 1960, and was the mother of two loving daughters, Dianna Lynne and Kathy Elaine. After being a stay-at-home mom for five years, she returned to the work force as a Regional Sales Manager for Sanborn Electric. Later in life she worked at King's Daughters' Hospital, where she retired in 2008.

In 1973, she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Clifford "Biff" Murphy, to whom she married on January 5, 1974. They shared 23 loving years of marriage until Biff's death on March 31, 1997.

She was a lifetime member of the Milton United Methodist Church, where she taught the young adult Sunday School class for several years. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church. Linda was also a member of the River Valley Community Church. She was a member of the Gideon's International "Madison Camp," where she served as secretary.

Linda was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Madison Chapter #530 and the Hanover Chapter #525. She served as Worthy Matron several years and was district deputy in 1987 and 1988. Linda was the Grand Representative to Puerto Rico in 1995 and 1996, and served as Grand Warden to the Indiana Grand Chapter. She was also a Kentucky Colonel. Linda enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, spending time with her family and many friends, and swimming at the Y.M.C.A. in Vevay, Indiana.

Faith, family and friends were very important to her.

She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Linda greatly enjoyed social gatherings, ice cream, and a great piece of chocolate. Hers was a life well lived.

Linda passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford "Biff" Murphy, who passed away on March 31, 1997; her father, James "JW" Butler, who passed away on January 22, 2003; her mother, Ruth (Wheeler) Butler, who passed away on July 23, 2013; her brother, James "Jimmy" Butler, who passed on October 19, 2007; her nephew, Jimmy Butler, Jr.; and her great nephew, Johnathan George.

She is survived by her daughters, Dianna Nunns of Santa Cruz, California, Kathy Kidwell of Madison, and her adopted daughter, Rita Addleman and her husband, Dwight of Madison; two grandchildren: Aaron Nunns of Madison and Christopher Kidwell of Columbus, Indiana; two great grandsons: Skyler "Nunns" McQueary of Madison and Brian Kidwell of Tennessee; two sisters: Judy Bray and her husband, Tommy, and Diane Ferrell and her husband, Tom of Madison; one brother: Don Butler and his wife, Linda of Clay City, Kentucky; one uncle: Joe Butler and his wife, Velma of Milton, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Milton United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Moffett Cemetery in Milton. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7:30 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Linda's wish was for memorials to be made to the Milton United Methodist Church or Gideon's International. Contribution cards are available at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
