Condolence: Jan and family -

Please accept our expression of sympathy and condolences at this time. John (and you, Jan) welcomed Nancy and me to the Loras College and Dubuque communities from day one of our arrival here in 1979 with genuine hospitality, collegiality and respect. I learned early on that John was a great listener and a source of encouragement and wisdom for me as a very "junior" faculty member at Loras.
And of course there was his hearty and life-sustaining laugh . . . . May God and the love of others carry you
always.
Roy W. Carroll, Ph.D. Prof. Emeritus of Music, Loras College.

Condolence: What's not to like about John. The adjectives are endless. He is professional, yet so personable. A caring man who was so student-oriented. A man who leads, but does so in a manner in which his thoughts are easily followed.

I have had many meetings with John in the recent years at HyVee--always enjoyable.

I am unable to attend the wake service or mass as I am out if town.

Condolence: John Hess was a professor and advisor when I attended Loras for a teaching degree. I remember him as committed to his students and to the field of education. His dedication had a strong, positive impact on my career.

Condolence: Jan, please accept our sympathies and daily prayers for Dr. J.

I will always remember our time together serving on Audubon's Site Council and our wonderful conversations about your amazing trips! I smiled when I read about his Dr. J's laugh! So true!

I am honored to have walked together for a time on his earthly journey!

May he Rest In Peace. Amen.

Condolence: They just don't come any finer than John Hess. He was my professor at Loras and back in the day when I was a teacher, John and I worked together as he mentored several of my student teachers. Kind, caring, competent, high expectations, just a very, very good man. This is a great loss.
