On November 26, 1959 Carl married the love of his life, Gwen (Gaul) Healey in Dyersville. They celebrated 57 years of marriage together and raised three wonderful children.

Carl worked for the Dubuque community school district for forty years, many of which he spent working tirelessly at Washington Middle School. Carl started Bingo at St. Joe’s where he ran it for many years. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 5513 and St. Vincent De Paul.

Carl was a man of great faith and lived by his values. Carl exemplified what it was to be a caring husband. As a family, we learned to love by watching Carl and Gwen in their many years of devoted marriage.
Carl was an extraordinary father and a simple-mannered man. He taught by example. He instilled loyalty and faithfulness to family and friends, with a tremendous work ethic and with a devotion and commitment to the Lord. His ability to listen and give his quiet wisdom will be cherished by all. He could always be counted on to be there. He was our friend and hero.

Carl also embraced his role as a grandfather. He enjoyed spending an abundance of time with his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Carl had a gentle heart and a kind spirit. He was a man of great character, faith, love, and courage.

Carl enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially football and bowling, fishing, boating, traveling, and camping. He loved going to children and grandchildren’s sporting events and was always so proud of our accomplishments.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Gwen; three children, Cathy (Steve) Schlueter, Steve (Rhonda) Healey of Dubuque, and Mike (Penny) Healey of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren Jessica Healey, Lindsy (Marty) Hurm, Jenny Schlueter, Katie Healey, and Christy Healey; great grandchildren Caden, Brady, and Gabriel; sister Mary (Joe) McGill of Denver, CO; and sister in law Janet (Harlan) Pfohl of Dubuque.
