Domingo Sison Magat was born in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Philippines on May 23, 1939 to Genaro & Flora Magat. He was the oldest of 10 siblings. At the age of 77, he fought an extraordinary fight of 3 strokes within a 2 week period that eventually took a toll on his body. He was called as an angel to God's kingdom on February 19, 2017.
Domingo grew up poor but always strived to succeed. He received a vocational degree in the Philippines and was the top of his class. He worked at the Dredge Damayan, River Dredging Branch, Flood Control & Drainage Division in Manila Philippines. He also worked as a radio operator on fishing boats & knew Morse Code.
He joined the US Navy in 1967 working as an SS. Because he knew Morse Code, he was asked to work as a radio operator. He later changed his rate to an electricians mate & continued his Naval career until his retirement in 1993 as a Chief. He proudly served for 26 years. After retiring he decided to further his education by taking courses in Commerce.
He met his wife Maria Ely in 1971 in National City, CA & was married on November 18, 1972. They lived in National City, CA & settled permanently to nearby Paradise Hills in the San Diego area.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Ely, daughters Daisy Padilla & Edith Sherman, son in laws Marc Padilla & Robert Sherman, grandchildren Marcelle Padilla, Kristen Padilla, Dylan Padilla, Avalene Sherman & Five Sherman & fur grandchildren Bear, Oreo, Wolf & Poppi.
Our Dad had the biggest heart. Everyone who knew him felt that. He was a kind, generous & humble man who was known for saying "My Dear". We will miss him dearly & find comfort that he is at peace & with the other angels watching over us.
Thank you family, friends & neighbors for your unconditional support of love & prayer. This was an emotional roller coaster of a journey that we could not have overcome without your kind words of encouragement. We will always keep you in our hearts.
Loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Ninong, Brother, Neighbor & Friend
