Martha Hlivka, longtime resident of Sterling Heights, died peacefully May 12, 2017. She is 89 years of age.

Martha was born January 1, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Thomas and Wanda (Dina) Wahl. She was united in marriage in July 31, 1948 to her beloved husband, John Hlivka in Bethel Lutheran Church of Detroit. They were blessed with two children, Thomas and Kathleen, of whom they loved and cherished. The family made their home in Sterling Heights in 1970, and Martha made sure her children were raised with Christian values in a loving home. She was an excellent cook and one of her specialties was her homemade pirogi. Martha was also known for her wonderful baking skills and her delicious bake goods she would make for family and friends. She enjoyed watching golfing , hockey, was an Red Wings fan and was an avid reader who enjoyed her daily word search. Martha was a humble, kind and gentle woman who lived her life with a positive outlook and love. She was a good influence on her children and grandchildren and led by example. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Martha was the loving wife of the late John; cherished mother of Thomas ( Candace) Hlivka and Kathleen (Gari) Prange; deaerest grandmother of Christopher (Michelle), Daniel, Matthew (Anneliese) Prange; great-grandmother of John, and Juliana.
