We had the pleasure of meeting Gregg and Micki when our son, Patrick, starting dating their daughter, Kimberly. Patrick and Kimberly got engaged, married, and our lives soon intertwined. Even though we lived 3 1/2 hours apart, we were able to see them at many of Kim's performances and family get-togethers. Our fondest memories are their visits to our summer cottage every year. One unfortunate incident was when Tyler lost his eyeglasses over the side of the pontoon. Those glasses are still somewhere on the bottom of Third Lake! We also have wonderful memories of our meetings in Galena at Happy Joe's with Gregg, Micki and our family.
Gregg would drive back and forth to Chicago and northern Illinois in one day. He attended all of Kim's performances, all showers, and birthday parties. Most people wouldn't dream of doing a total of 7 hours of driving in addition to attend a concert or party all in one day. Not Gregg! He drove back and forth to the Chicago area as if he was driving down the street to a local store.
My most touching memory was when Gregg and Micki did that long commute to attend my mother's wake. I was so surprised to see them, but so happy that they, as always, were there for my family.
Many will remember Gregg as a fine musician, teacher and band director. Many will remember him as a great brother, uncle, and friend. His family will remember him as a dear husband, father and grandfather. Gregg fought courageously to live, not for himself, but for his wife, his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful man and we will miss him.
