Condolence: Hi Liz, I was searching for Gregg today some paving work for my neighborhood and found this obituary. I am so sorry......He was a great guy. I hope you remember me from Uncle Mikes, your Rykoff salesman and then I ran the Agua Dulce Airport where Gregg did a lot of work for us.

Condolence: On June 21, 2019, I found myself thinking of my dear friend from Reseda High, Greg Olmstead. I decided to search the internet for him to see how he was doing. I was so, so sad to see that one of my heroes has passed.

I have always remembered how we first met. We were 14 years old, in Babe Ruth League. Greg was the opposing pitcher that day, and I was afraid to step into the batter’s box because he was dominant. I got lucky and got a base hit that drove in the winning run. After the game, I was in line at the snack shack for a post game feast. Greg came up to me and said, “Nice game Vitz. Let me get this.” He paid for my hot dog and coke! Greg Olmstead, the guy I feared, suddenly became a FRIEND that I admired - and have admired for over 50 years!

At Reseda High, we carpooled to school. We hung out at each others homes. We shared tons of good times and I was always knew that Greg was a “class act”. I was impressed with the love he had for his family. His father and mother were amazing! Unfortunately, amidst the hassles of being a teenager, I never got to know all of his siblings, but I have a special place in my heart for Ted and Anita.

When Ted was about 1 year old, on Christmas Day there was a knock on my front door. I opened the door and found Ted “gift wrapped” as if Greg was giving Ted to me for Christmas. That was hilarious!

In my senior year at Reseda, I received a letter that I was accepted to Marquette University. The first thing I did was call Greg with the good news! I read the letter to him, “Dear Mr. Vitz, we are happy to announce that you have been accepted ………” When I finished, Greg said, “That’s great! When is he leaving?” I asked, “Who?” Greg said, “Your Pop.” I couldn’t stop laughing. Moments like those were endearing and typical of Greg’s humor.

I ended up in the SF Bay Area and, as often happens, we lost touch with one another. The last time I saw Greg, in the 1990’s I think, I met him and Ted for lunch, in the Valley. I remember feeling glad that Greg was still Greg! He was humble and happy; confident and cool.

Greg, and his beloved family, have long been in my prayers, and they always will be.

Rest in Peace my great friend!

*My name is Liz ,I’m Greg ‘ s younger sister.
My brother was one of kind person gifted in every way. He came in into this life with movie star looks, intelligence, athletic, ability, a fab sense of humor and a heart of gold. His beautiful brown eyes would shine especially when we were laughing with him; they were ‘’Greg’’ stories of his volumes of experiences, many cherished from the one and only ‘’Greg’’. I watched him over the years as his little sister, wherever he went, he was the life of the party. He was, at school, center of attention whether it be in a group of friends, his big family, and the holidays. He was Elvis’s biggest fan and he could imitate him to a tee. The girls would scream and followed him every- where. They all wanted to be his girlfriend. He was even super popular in church amongst all his peers. We were in awe watching everyone around him, after all , they had their very own Elvis Presley in their midst. It couldn’t be better than that! There were throngs of girls and guys that constantly surrounded him. He was literally the Pied Piper, so loved but hard to catch for very long. Everyone wanted a part of ‘’Greg ‘’.With his movie star looks , he could throw a football with ‘’star’’ quarterback ability, and he pitched a baseball clocked at 98 miles an hour. As sweet and generous as Greg was, he was equally as stubborn. He had to do things his way. He had his own way of looking at things. His confidence carried him through.
• I, and his younger siblings loved it when after he moved out of the family home, would drop by and he loved seeing us.
• My dear sweet brother Greggie, (which I loved calling him), in time; as the later years approached, tired of the limelight and weathered through his share of disappointments that came his way; relished in his privacy and recognized his joy and love of his life was in his big family, and the love he got in return from his beloved nieces and nephew.
• Greg, the last 30 years or so,dedicated himself in his self owned and operated Asphalt, Concrete, Paving business. He made lasting friendships with and talked fondly about Murray, Jason, Roy, Mike, and Dave all the time. He loved the work he was doing.
As I look back, Greg had the heart of a child, reflecting on the good life filled with tons of stories of the glory days of the West San Fernando Valley and the fabulous fun he had amongst the literally hundreds of friends that settled here when his family did. He was and always will be awesome and loved. I was so glad I understood him.The greatest blessing bestowed on my beloved brother; was that he was Gregory Alan Olmstead.*
We will all miss you soo much Greg; until we meet again . with love, your Sis Liz.

Condolence: My Brother Greg
Ted's Perspective:

Greg was a classical "big brother." I was always bragging about him: gifted athlete with records of accomplishments that still stand today. He was "Elvis," "The Fonz," "Ted Williams," and "Fran Tarkenton" all rolled into one! He loved his Mom, Dad, and all of his brothers and sisters; and boy, could he party! Greg also had a very endearing and loving side that proceeded his tough image. If you knew him, you'd want to hug him! May he dwell with God in heaven along with Dad and Mom. "Till we meet again."
