Obituary for Leland Stansbury Sullivan

Leland S. Sullivan, 88, of Colonial Heights passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017. Born December 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Ruby Monroe Sullivan, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Skelton Sullivan; and son, Keith Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan retired from Brown and Williamson after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed watching racing and cheering for his beloved Washington Redskins, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughter, Leanne Barfield and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Allen Barfield and wife, Jana, Cammie Brown and husband, Billy, Joshua Sullivan, Tracy Coltrain; eight great-grandchildren, three of which were known as “his boys”, Gavin, BB, and Ace; brothers, Charles Sullivan, Terry Sullivan; sisters, Phyllis McCarter, Pam Brockwell, Betty Wells; best friend of many years, Charles Mullis; his furry four-legged pal, BooBoo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Carol Bish, Susan Crew, Karen Titmus for their extraordinary care of Mr. Sullivan. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Jimmy Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
