Eugene G. "Gene"  Kristof
Eugene “Gene” Kristof, age 91, of Overland Park, KS, passed away April 19, 2017, at Kansas City Hospice House.

He was born in Chicago, IL on January 9, 1926, to Helen and Eugene Kristof. A Navy veteran of World War II, Gene served as a Deck Officer in the Pacific Theater and participated in atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll.

He graduated from St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, KS in 1949 and married his college sweetheart, Mary Catherine “Mary Kay” Moeller, in October of that year. Gene’s professional career spanned over 50 years where he held engineering and supervisory positions with Solo Cup Company, Westinghouse, and Bendix/AlliedSignal, retiring in 1992. He served the city of Grandview, MO as a member of the Zoning Adjustment Board for 17 years and was a founding member of Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Grandview where he served as an usher and chaired many funding campaigns and various church committees.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Kay, in 2006 and Ed Kristof, his brother. Survivors include his brother, Joe Kristof and sons Mark Kristof (Beth), Joseph Kristof (DeAnne), Kenneth Kristof (Lorie), daughters Christine Miller (Charles) and Ann Smith (Jeffrey), 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation with private burial service at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 801 S. 8th St., Atchison, KS 66002.
