Mr. Jimmy "Jim" Lee Layton, 74, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Universal Healthcare in Concord.
Jim was born on August 27, 1942 in Castalia, NC to the late Junius "June" Wesley Layton and Viola Brown Layton. He is also preceded in death by his second wife, Ruth Layton; brothers, Ben Layton, Will Layton; sisters, Edith Raynor(who was Mary Edith "Edith or Edie" Layton Sanderford Raynor), Ethel Watkins(who was Ethel Bell Layton Watkins Young) , Elizabeth Cruse( who was Elizabeth May Layton Crews Rickerds), and Marie Smith; grandson, Matthew Thomas Layton.
Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam. He also worked as a blacksmith/machinist for many years. Jim was a master craftsman and could construct just about anything with his hands.
He is survived by his son, David Layton and wife, Anita; grandsons, Andrew D. Layton and Aaron J. Layton; “the girls”, Oreo and Blackie; two half brothers; Ollie G Layton and James Rossie Layton; Jim’s first wife was Sarah Day Layton.
Memorials may be made to Pitts Baptist Church-Youth Program, 140 Pitts School Road NW, Concord, NC 28027.
