Anastasia Kangos passed away on Monday May 8 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 92 years old.

Mrs. Kangos was born and raised in Manhattan, graduated Hunter College High School in 1941 and Hunter College in 1945. With her BA in Foods and Nutrition, she worked as a dietician at St. Luke's Hospital and became department head within 4 years. Mrs. Kangos married John Kangos in 1948 upon his graduation from medical school. She left her career to be a full-time homemaker in 1951 when her husband joined the New Brunswick Pediatric Group in New Brunswick. In 1973, Mrs. Kangos' husband was appointed Director of Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology at St. Peter's Hospital and she became his cardiology practice office manager for 18 years.

She was a resident of Metuchen for over 65 years. After starting her life and career in New York City, she quickly grew to love and appreciate life in Metuchen. The excellent public schools and community lifestyle were so appreciated by her. She repeatedly expressed joy and satisfaction with her life. Most of all, Anastasia Kangos was admired by her family and friends from throughout her life for the heart-felt interest, support and encouragement she always provided. The seemingly top priority in her life was maintaining close relationships with everyone. Personal and detailed notes were an integral part of the hundreds of Christmas cards sent annually.

Mrs. Kangos was a longtime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway serving as past President of their PTO, and member of the Senior Citizens and Ladies Philoptochos Society. Mrs. Kangos was a member of the St. Peter's and RWJUH Auxiliaries and active in the MIddlesex County AMA Auxiliary.

She was pre-deceased by her husband John Kangos in 1998, her son James Kangos in 1986, a sister Evelyn Bales in 2014 and a granddaughter Allison Kangos in 2016.

Mrs. Kangos is survived by her children Dr. Peter Kangos and his wife Linda of Austin, Texas, daughter-in-law Vickie Kangos of Glastonbury, Connecticut and Kathryn Rehorn and her husband Andrew of Metuchen. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren Holly, Kathryn, Kelsey, John, Edward, Michelle, Lindsay, Kayle, Michael and Emily.

Friends and family may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday May 12 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. A funeral service will take place on Saturday May 13 at 8:30 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway and burial at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick.
