Obituary for Hermon Franklin Griffis

Hermon Franklin Griffis, born April 6, 1927 in Jesup, Georgia to Northern Griffis and Valley Westberry Griffis, passed away peacefully May 8, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida, a resident of Jacksonville for almost 70 years.
Hermon served his country with pride in the United States Army, followed by 43 years of Civil Service at Kings Bay, Cecil Air Field, Naval Air Station and Mayport Naval Air Station. He was a loving husband and great father to his sons and wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren. Hermon and his wife have been members of the Shepherd Fold Church of God for 23 years. Prior to Shepherd Fold, they were members of Oakwood Villa Church of God of Prophecy for 32 years, where Reverend Lois Daniel Westberry (Peggy’s father) was pastor and their sons, Michael and Bryan were raised in this church. Hermon truly loved our Lord God.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Inez Miller, Alton “Sport” Griffis, Irene Buie, Melvin Griffis, Gordon Griffis, and Iris Poindexter, Danny Westberry (in law), Wayne Westberry (in law).
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Westberry Griffis, son Michael Griffis, son Bryan Griffis (Johanna), his sister (in law) Lawana Nobles (Roy), his brothers (in law) Delmar Westberry (Linda), Kenneth Westberry (Marie), Donnell Westberry (Kathy), grandchildren Preston Griffis (Laura), Rebecca Buenavista (Ariel), Jennifer Griffis, great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
The Griffis family will be receiving friends and family for the Viewing on Thursday May 11th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211.
The Service will be on Friday May 12th at 11:00AM at Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Eddie Watson and Reverend Chuck Anderson. Interment will follow the service at Arlington Park Cemetery. The United States Army will render military honors to acknowledge Mr. Griffis’ service to a grateful nation.
The Griffis family will be receiving friends and family at Shepherd Fold Church of God at 5629 Merrill Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32277, immediately following the Service/Interment.
