It is with great sadness that we announce the passing J. Arthur Burns of Louisdale at the age of 87 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born October 7, 1929 in Louisdale to the late William and Mary Barb (Marchand) Burns. Arthur was a lifetime member of the Local 1588 of the carpenter’s union. He worked on many large-scale projects especially in the Strait area. He was considered to be a strong capable and respected employee at difficult and dangerous job sites. He was a kind devoted father and husband. He was a member and long-time usher at St. Louis parish and church in Louisdale. He was a past member of the Louisdale Lions Club and Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and going to bingo with his sisters. He was an avid fan of the Louisdale Baracos and the Toronto Blue Jays Ball Clubs. He is survived by his second wife Helen (LeLievre) Burns who were married on November 9, 1990. They were devoted to each other and she became his caregiver when he became ill. She took excellent care of him and greatly improved his quality of life for which his children and grandchildren will be eternally grateful for. He is also survived by his children Donna (Detlef Behrendt) Marchand, Louisdale, Joann (Kenny Cosman) Burns, River Bourgeois, David (Lois) Burns, Halifax, Gerard (Darlene) Burns, Barry (April) Burns, both of Louisdale. He is also survived by his step daughter Nadia (Eddie) Landry, Kamloops, B.C. and step son-in-law Bob Whitcher, Sudbury, ON. His grand children and great grandchildren were his pride and joy they include Angie, Adam, Michael, Lori, Kyle, Leah, Anthony, Matthew, Jenna, Cody, Tatianna, Yelenna, Benjamin, Addison, Douglas and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister Irene and brother Joseph N. as well as his sister-in-law Kay and brother-in-law’s Cecil, Harry and Cyril. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 32 years Muriel (Colford), his twin brother William, sisters Mae, Celina, Delta, Eleanor, Verona and brother Norman, son-in-law Douglas Marchand and step daughter Juanita Whitcher. Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale Tuesday, May 16th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass to Celebrate the life of Arthur will be held in St. Louis Church in Louisdale on Wednesday May 17th at 11:00am with Rev. Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial to follow in St Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale. A reception will take place following the committal in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 Grand Anse. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to Autism Speaks Canada.
