Crescencia “Cynthia” Duran, 83, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Starbuck Funeral Home, 201 Edwards, Merkel, Texas, followed by Rosary at 7:00 PM. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 1300 Locust, Merkel, Texas. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Cynthia was born June 9, 1934 in Merkel, Texas to Leonardo and Esther Biera. She married Frank Duran in 1950 and the couple had three children. Cynthia loved baking and cooking, embroidery, bargain shopping and playing bingo. She was very involved in church, and loved singing in the choir and assisting in church functions.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; her children, Rosemary McConnon and Roberta Duran, both of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Stephanie Gutierrez and husband Gilbert of Abilene; Elizabeth Painter, Cassidy McConnon and Alison McConnon, all of San Antonio; and James Valero of Midland; three sisters, Mary Martinez and husband Tony of Abilene; Carmen Acuna and husband Felix of Merkel; Esther Sayer of Washington, Illinois and one brother, Tony Biera and wife Virginia of Merkel. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Suzanna Painter, and two sisters, Cruz Ribera and Rosa Whitt.
