Obituary for Charles M. Greenwald
At 92 years of age, Charles M. Greenwald was a renaissance man with wide-ranging interests. In addition to his professional organizations he devoted time and energy to a range of activities supporting theater, music, science and education in his community.
Born in Queens, N.Y. he attended Columbia University receiving his M.D. in 1948. He served as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, completing his specialty training in Radiology at the Cleveland Clinic. In 1961 he was the founding Director of the Dept. of Radiology at Parma Community General Hospital where he practiced some 25 years until retirement. He helped begin and served as Director of the the School of Radiologic Technology. He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor for Case Western Reserve University. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Councilor for the Ohio chapter and President of the Ohio Radiologic Society.
Dr. Greenwald was a long time Rotarian and honored by the Parma club as a Paul Harris Fellow for his service and 50 years of perfect attendance.
A life long passionate learner, his travels touched all 7 continents with many trips focusing on wildlife and early civilizations. His passion for bones continued in retirement as an associate at the Cleveland Museum of National History in the Physical Anthropology department. He coauthored several papers and journal articles during his retirement years.
He was married to Margaret (nee Paschall) for 60 years and is survived by his children Chuck (Carol), Amy, Bob (Celeste), Rich (Patricia), Pat (Kurt) grandchildren David (Jennifer), Allison (Doug), Megan (Will), Charlie, Ryan, Emma and great children Kallie, Summer, Andrew, Charlie, & James and loving friend Lois Karlsberger.
