Condolence: Mr. Woodburn was my neighbor growing up in College Park. He was a very kind man with great sense of humor. I spent a lot of time in his home playing with his daughter. I have many fond memories. My deepest sympathies to the entire Woodburn family.

Condolence: I had Doc Woodburn for Geometry and the Academy of the Holy Names in 1980 I think it was, maybe 81'. I was not a big math enthusiast to say the least but I remember it being one of my favorite classes ever. It was like having your grandpa teach your class and he as patient and understanding as long as he knew you were trying. I'm so glad to see he shared his love of learning for so long, there are a lot of really lucky students out there. He will be missed.

Condolence: Doc was my homeroom teacher at Holy Names. He was always sweet and loved teaching math. He's probably the only reason I passed Geometry.

Condolence: Dr. Woodburn hired me in the summer of 1972 to teach Biology at DuVal HS when my husband and I moved to Prince George's County from upstate NY. A kinder and more unassuming man never walked the face of the Earth! He had his "fits" during the rough decade of the 1970's, both with the students and with some young pranksters on the faculty, but he took it all in stride. I think the posted tributes so far say it all and, although I send my condolences to the family on his passing, I celebrate a life well-lived and wish I could have been at the services in GA (since I now live in Macon but had no idea that he had moved down from MD). May this good and faithful servant rest in peace!

Condolence: Dr. Woodburn was my principal when I first came to high school in1972. He was good man and principal. He was an asset to the school and took care of us unruly, but hard-working young teachers. I saw him at St. Andrews Espisc. in College Park in the early 2000s to find he was still working. A loyal husband and father--many kind memories.

Condolence: Dr. Woodburn became Principal @ DuVal Sr. High the year prior to my sophomore year @ DuVal. Dr. Woodburn was a kind & true "Gentle-Man". I'll always remember he & 1st Vice-Principal Hayes patrolling the halls reminding us to get to class & don't be late. Dr. Woodburn always had time for his students. He guided DuVal through those turbulent days of court ordered busing with a kind & steady leadership that was needed. He was an "Inclusive" not exclusive man & he sought to make DuVal like that. I last spoke with him in the spring of 2007 @ Elizabeth Seton Catholic High School as I returned some of the girls to the school after a field trip. I spotted this short figure walking across the parking lot, as he approached I recognized him. I jumped down off of the bus & shouted Dr. Woodburn ! He turned & smiled & answered; yes? I then shouted one of my favorite cheers; "DUVAL" ! Dr. Woodburn responded in kind "TIGERS". I ran up to him & greeted him & he said; "Santo, good to see you & how have you been"? I was surprised that he remembered my name. Dr. Woodburn I think, knew about 98% of the students names @ DuVal. We had a friendly 15 min. chat & we parted ways. I'll forever remember that smile & the last words he said to me that day. He said; "keep up the good work Tiger". I thank God for bringing Dr. Woodburn into our lives during those "Wild & Crazy" days @ DuVal. To the entire Woodburn family I shall keep you all in my prayers & I say to My Principal Dr. Dale B. Woodburn; job well done, rest well, & God Bless "U" sir.

Condolence: I attended DuVal High School in Maryland in the 70's. Dr. Woodburn was our principal. I remember him as a gentle and kind grandfatherly man. I was fortunate to reconnect with him just a few years ago when I visited Elizabeth Seton High School. It was an honor to know him, and I am so sorry for your loss.

Condolence: I attended Belair Junior High in 1964 to 1966. During that time Mr. Woodburn could be seen in the hall with a smile. A normal morning was Mr. Woodburn and Mr Ward greeting the students with a smile.

Now there is another Bowie angel to watch over us. RIP Mr. Woodburn.
