Life Story for Charles E. Howley

Charles E.  Howley
Charles E. Howley, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison. He was born March 26, 1934 in Madison, the son of Velma (Roberts) and Fred Howley.

Mr. Howley was a life resident of Madison. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and the US Army Reserves after twenty-seven years, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. He worked for twenty-five years as an appliance repairman for the former Madison Radio. He had also been employed with Lytle Mortuary in the 1950s, as a jailer and reserve deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and retired in 1996 from the Department of Corrections after ten years.

On November 2, 1954, Mr. Howley married Wanda McCoskey at Saint Michael's Rectory in Madison.

He was a member of North Madison Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, watching Westerns on TV, the outdoors, and visiting with neighbors, friends and family.

He will be sadly missed by his wife; one son, Kevin Howley of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Sandy Howley of Boggstown, Indiana; his daughter-in-law, Cheryll Howley of LaGrange, Kentucky; three grandchidlren: Nicholas Howley of Madison, Alyssa Howley-Williams and her companion, Jon of Columbus, Indiana, and Courtney Brown and her husband, Troy of LaGrange; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles David Howley on May 14, 2014; one grandson, Austin Howley on August 20, 2013; and two sisters: Patricia Jones and Mary Howley.

The Reverend Frank McGee will conduct funeral services at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2017 at North Madison Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion will conduct military services at the cemetery.

Friends and family may call from at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Thursday at the church.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the North Madison Baptist Church. Contributions may be made at the church or any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
