William Gainey, age 59, of Toledo, OH, passed away on July 1, 2017 at his home in Holland, OH.

On February 7, 1958, God blessed Frank and Zenobia Gainey with the birth of William Gainey, but he was born with a bad liver, and they were afraid he wouldn't survive. He did survive but was a sickly child, so as he got older his mother would hold him as he wiggled and tried to get down to play with his siblings because she was afraid that she would lose him. However, he was strong willed and determined to live life, so she had to let him go! He grew up with his loving parents and siblings, enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball at Macomber High School, where he studied printing and graduated 29th in the class of 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Debra, with whom he had three children, Sheri, Shana and Samuel. He was an extraordinary husband, brother, son, cousin, mentor, friend, deacon/man of God, uncle, and father. Those who know him say how he mentored them, encouraged them, stood in as a father figure for them, prayed for them, guided them, bought rental properties for them to live in/rent so they could raise their children in safe neighborhoods with good schools, helped to feed and clothe them, and shared the Gospel with them. He was a family man who worked hard to support his family, and always came home after work to have family dinners, attend all of his childrens' games/concerts/events, advocate for them when needed, take them out for dinner/ice cream, buy them what we needed and wanted, talk to them, guide them, correct them when they were wrong, encourage them and sacrifice for them.

He ended up living a full, happy, relatively healthy life, even after having liver failure (through no fault of his own) in 2010 and being healed by God after the doctors said there was nothing they could do! God gave him 7 more years until he was diagnosed with cancer in his liver (a common complication of liver cirrhosis) and passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family who loved him the most on July 1, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dawn. He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 4 grandchildren: Gabriel, Josiah, Jade and Skyla, and 4 siblings: Rita, Daryl, Reloy and Lavelle. His family love and miss him, but take comfort knowing that he was saved and that they'll see him again in heaven.
