Obituary for Bernice Hyde

Bernice Hyde
Bernice Hyde, a 54 year resident of Lake Bluff, peacefully passed away at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family. Bernice was the daughter of Hilbert and Hildegarde Borchardt and was born in Milwaukee, WI. She married Lt. Col. Albert John Hyde in January 1953 in Milwaukee. They shared 45 wonderful years until his death in 1998. Bernice and Al travelled the world for many years as part of Lt. Col. Hyde’s military career. They especially relished the time they lived in Germany. Bernice was an active member of the Military Officers’ Wives Club in Highland Park. She had a special fondness for Fort Sheridan, Illinois, where the family has spent early years. She enjoyed residing in Lake Bluff with the concerts on the Village Green, the delightful downtown, a family atmosphere and 4th of July Parade. Bernice loved to travel and had been pleased with travel opportunities in France, Australia and Alaska in recent years. Her most cherished times were spent with her two daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren in whatever activity they were involved in. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Hilbert and Hildegarde, her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Norma Borchardt, her beloved husband Lt. Col. Albert J Hyde and her cherished daughter Dr. Carol Hyde-Basso. Survivors include her daughter Dr. Janice Hyde Eckola (Jack) of Burlington, Wisconsin, Son-in-law Ray Basso of Lake Forest, Illinois, grandchildren Karolyn (Jesse) Isom, Bradley (Holly) Hyde Eckola, Rae Hyde-Basso, and Cara (Hiram Rodriguez) Hyde-Basso. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Parker, Faith, Grant and Carson. Bernice was grateful for the good neighbors and dear friends that encircled her throughout life. Arrangements by the Wenban Funeral Home, Lake Forest, Illinois were private. Donations in Bernice’s memory may be made to the Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade, PO Box 211, Lake Bluff, IL 60044; Bluffinia Concerts on the Green, The Lake Bluff Park District, 355 W Washington Ave, Lake Bluff, IL 60044; or The Lake Bluff Public Library, 123 E Scranton, Lake Bluff, IL 60044.
