Obituary for Gladys Glombowski

Gladys Marie Glombowski age 84, past away peacefully July 17, 2017 surrounded by friends. Gladys was born February 20, 1933, in Port Huron MI to Randolph and Hazel. Gladys married Ambrose Michael Glombowski, the boy next door in 1959. They enjoyed 57 years together. Gladys earned her degree in teaching. They moved to Lake Forest in 1967. Gladys taught first and third grades at Sheridan Elementary School for over 23 years. Gladys loved knitting and made many sweaters and blankets for family and friends. Gladys was also a very talented cook and baker. She baked the most delicious pies for family gatherings. Gladys and Amby had many adventures together from dog sledding in Alaska to a trip to the Antarctica and a vacation at the Equator. Gladys with her beloved husband, enjoyed cross country skiing, bicycle riding, walking their black labs, spending time with friends, and driving their Model A, the car Amby owned when they were first dating. Gladys was preceded in death by her loving husband Ambrose Glombowski and her parents. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 1pm to 2pm, with a funeral service starting at 2pm at Wenban Funeral Home 320 Vine, Lake Forest IL. Gladys had requested in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Working Dogs Research Fund, Spartan Way 535 Chestnut Rd., Room 300, East Lansing, MI 48824 or Dickinson Hall, 100 E. Old Mill Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045.
