Obituary for Helen Springsteen

Helen Springsteen
Helen E. Springsteen, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, passing away at her daughter’s home in Middleville.

She was born the daughter of Roy & Clara (Gould) Sprague in Shepherd on November 21, 1924 and they precede her in death along with her husband of 64 years, Donovan “Mick” Springsteen; her twin brother, Harlan, plus five additional brothers; one sister; four grandsons, Mark Shriver II, Joel Springsteen, James Springsteen, Ian Springsteen; two great grandsons, Billy Collins Jr. and Ricky Collins and son-in-law, Mark Shriver.

Helen is survived by her children, John (Sadie) Springsteen of Greenville, Rodney (Jean) Springsteen of Sheridan, Loretta Shriver of Middleville, Ned (Kelly) Springsteen of Sheridan, Aden (Janet) Springsteen of Madison Heights; sister-in-law, Lois Springsteen of Sheridan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold & Dorothy Springsteen of Sheridan; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

First and foremost, Helen loved the Lord. She was a member of Shiloh Community Church and was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Helen enjoyed challenging herself to keep her mind sharp and even at the young age of 92 she could still name every state capitol in the United States and recite from memory the 23rd and 91st Psalm as well as the Lord’s Prayer. In her younger years, Helen enjoyed bowling and playing shuffle board. She enjoyed being outdoors especially camping, hunting for mushrooms and ice fishing. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the western part of the US and would often talk of the train ride she took throughout Canada. Helen also liked to garden where she would grow and tend to her world-renowned Irises which people would come to admire from miles around.

Visitation with Helen’s family is being held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 10-11 AM at the Shiloh Community Church with a memorial service beginning at 11 AM. Pastor Ken Harger will be officiating the services and final inurnment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery.

For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Helen’s memory the family has suggested donations be made to either the Shiloh Community Church or Hospice of Michigan and envelopes will be available at the church on Saturday.
