Obituary for Angrez Kaur Bhangu

Angrez Kaur Bhangu
Angrez Kaur Bhangu, 94, of Hopewell Junction, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Raipur, District Sangoor, India on January 3, 1923, she was the daughter of Captain Partap Singh Dhindsa and Punjab Kaur.

Angrez Kaur was the daughter of a prominent farmer and Captain in World War I. She married Amrik Singh and she successfully managed the farm and had five wonderful children. She was always very healthy and attributed her good health to the hard work she did on the farm in her youth. She came to the United States in 1985 to help take care of her grandchildren. She was funny, intelligent, loving, independent and enjoyed reading and embroidery. Her traditional needlepoint work (Phulkari) has been a key part of her grandchildren’s weddings. Angrez Kaur attended Mid‐Hudson Sikh Cultural Society Gurdwara regularly and had a deep love and faith in her religion. Her children are very grateful to her for teaching and instilling in them her strong faith in God.

Angrez Kaur was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Amrik Singh. She is survived by her children, daughter Balbir K. Sandhu of Phoenix, AZ, son Amarjit S. Bhangu of Hopewell Junction, daughter Jasbir K. Kalirao of Wappingers Falls, son Chatar S. Bhangu of Hopewell Junction and son Jasvinder S. Bhangu of Hopewell Junction. In addition to her children, she is survived by her seven grandchildren and four great‐grandchildren, who all loved her immensely and brought her great joy.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 10:30 AM at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral procession will depart for the crematory at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
