Vernon ‘Pistol’ Gunn, 99, of Stephenville, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Stephenville

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, at West End Cemetery with David Bearden officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Vernon was born on October 15, 1917 in Stephenville to the late Claude H. and Ida Bates Stone Gunn. He married Madge Smithey on January 4, 1941 in Weatherford. Madge preceded him in death on August 24, 2000.

Vernon was a building contractor, owning and operating Gunn Construction Company for over 60 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Stephenville Masonic Lodge #367 for over 60 years, and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. Vernon was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ, and a lifelong resident of Erath County.

Survivors include his two sons, Vernon and wife Honeylane Gunn of Brownsville, and Steve and wife Dorilynn Gunn of Stephenville; daughters, Sandra Gunn of Stephenville/Frisco, and Di’Ann and husband Guy Campbell of Matador; grandchildren, Shawna Coon, Shannon Gardiner, Heath Campbell, Stephanie Garcia, Brady Gunn, and Tye Gunn; great grandchildren, Hunter and Dawson Campbell, Taylor and Tanner Gardiner, Campbell and Spencer Coon, Jonah Garcia, and Samuel Gunn.

Besides his parents, and wife, Madge; Vernon was also preceded in death by three sister, Dera Ratliff, Doris Spence, and Vivian Turner.

The Gunn family wish expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Fosters Home for Children, P. O. Box 978, Stephenville, Texas 76401, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
