Gary DeWayne Kinney, 66, lost a valiant battle with cancer Monday, July 24th at Essentia - St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Gary was born in Brainerd to Alfred & Gladys (Sawyer) Kinney on February 14th, 1951. Gary's passing was a great loss.
Gary owned and operated The Barn restaurant for 46 years. Loved and highly respected by his staff, whom he treated like family, Gary forged long and lasting friendships with many Barn patrons and Brainerd residents who will long remember his warm pies and smiles.
Gary will be forever missed by his wife Karen; children: James (Manny) Kinney, Anthony (Lisa) Kinney, Angela (Jason) Brichacek, Christine (Paul) Edwards, Luke Ojala, Brad Ojala, and Charolette (Mike) Bean; grandchildren: Jay, Andrew, Lizzy, Cody, Chelsea, Ethan, Lauren, Shawn, Bradlee and Emilee; brother Larry (Diana) Kinney; sister Mary (Dean) Wigen; brother-in-law, Kelly Stout and several nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Arnold and sister, Denise Stout.
Funeral service for Gary will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11AM at Church of the Nazarene, of Brainerd. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 4-7PM at Halvorson Johnson Funeral Home – BRAINERD CHAPEL, and one hour prior to the service, Friday at the church. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, near Little Falls.
