Obituary for Eleanor Marie Romaine

ROMAINE Eleanor Marie - age 85 of the Meadows Home for Special Care in Yarmouth passed away peacefully at the Meadows on July 25, 2017. Born in Surette’s Island on October 22, 1931 she was a daughter to the late Arthur and Delima (Frotten) Surette. First a foremost Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was known as an extremely hard worker and in her younger years worked at the Cotton Mill and then the Mermaid Motel for nearly 17 years. She is survived by her loving son Donald (Cindy) Romaine, Arcadia; brothers, Bill (Anne) Surette, Surette’s Island ; Bobby (Lorraine) Surette, Surette’s Island; sister, Jennie Muise, Arcadia; and granddaughter, Kelcie as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Edward; sisters, Katie Surette and Victorine Muise; brothers, Pius, James and Gerald. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Thursday July 27, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 P.M. A funeral mass will be held Friday July 28, 2017 at 10 A.M. from Saint Ambrose Cathedral with Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment will take place in Our lady of Calvary Cemetery. All are welcome to attend a reception in the Sainte Ambrose Jubilee Room following the mass. Donations in memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund or the Tri County V.O.N.
