Abelardo Montoya, 85, of San Angelo and formerly of Andrews, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in San Angelo.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Friday, July 28, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. Prayer services will be at 7:00 PM Thursday at McNett Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday at McNett Funeral Home. Abelardo was born on September 25, 1931 in El Mulato, Mexico (el Barrio de los Montoya) to Matias Montoya and Paula Armendariz Montoya. He was raised in El Mulato and ranched in Marfa for 30 years. He married Maria Ramos on September 19, 1955 in El Mulato. He had lived in Andrews for many years and moved to San Angelo in 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.

Abelardo is survived by his wife, Maria Montoya of Andrews, 3 sons, 5 daughters, 2 brothers, Anastacio Montoya of Presidio and Ruben Montoya of Brighton, Colorado, 1 sister, Josefina Estrada of Odessa, and 20 grandchildren.
