Obituary for Fred J Mesenko

Fred J. Mesenko, 79, of Missoula, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July, 26, 2017, at St. Patrick's Hospital.

Fred was born on Oct. 6, 1937, in Anaconda. He worked at the Anaconda smelter for the Anaconda Company before attending the University of Montana. On Aug. 15, 1959, he married Sharon Holloron. While honeymooning in Yellowstone National Park they were rocked by the deadly 7.3 magnitude Hebgen Lake earthquake, and survived. Fred went on to work for the state examiners office. His remaining career was spent working as an accountant for the Missoula School District.

In his youth he was a competitive downhill skier and avid sportsman. He enjoying hunting, and was also owner of the Longshot Sporting Goods store. He volunteered his time as a Little League baseball coach. Fred was also a longtime member of the Missoula Trap and Skeet Club. Later in life he loved to play golf and when he no longer had the ability to play, he had a permanent addiction to the golf channel.

Fred is survived by his wife Sharon of Missoula, two sons, Mark Mesenko of Missoula, Brian Mesenko and his wife Lisa of Meridian, Idaho, and daughter Shelley Mesenko-Mahan of Seattle, and their families which includes his six grandchildren: Lucas, Sydney, Grace, Sterling, Hank, McKenzie and one great-grandson, Sean; all of whom he was very proud of.
