On Tuesday, August 8th Isabella “Blanche” Starkes, (nee Chafe, Heffernan) at age 101, 11 months, made her final walk through the garden of life to eternal rest with her family by her side accompanying her each step of the way. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel (1974)and Blanche (1915) Chafe, her husbands John Heffernan (1942) and Arthur Starkes (2001), as well as her brother Augustus and his wife Bessie Chafe, daughter in law, Carole Heffernan (2013) and grandson, Jeffrey Adams (2016) in-laws Moody and Olive Starkes, Len and Liana Starkes, Olive and Wallace Young, Minnie and Vernon Francis. Blanche is survived by her children that lovingly showered her with affection every day, Shirley Smith (Dave), Adrian Heffernan, Lucy Adams (Eric) and Ruby Williams (Lloyd). Left with broken hearts for their Nan, grandchildren: John Heffernan (Gordina), Ann Marie Heffernan (Philip Wong), the love of her life Nicholas Williams, Terry Smith (Eugenia), Dale Smith (Laura), Steve Adams (Lisa), Patricia Lavaigne (Danny) as well as 10 great grandchildren and her extended family, Tina (Dave) Crosbie and their children Drew and Evan, Lloyd Williams and Joseph Williams. Blanche was residing at Pleasantview Towers, St. John’s where she was dearly loved by staff from many different departments but especially those on 2 South West who strived each day to make her day a good one. Their outpouring gestures of love and affection for her will not be forgotten and the family can’t thank them enough for being there. She will be resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Commonwealth Avenue, Mt. Pearl 7pm-9pm August 9th, and 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm August 10th. Funeral service at Wesley United Church, Patrick Street. 11am Friday, August 11th. Interment to follow at Field of Honor Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
