Obituary for Archie Yow Barnhardt

Archie Yow Barnhardt
Archie Yow Barnhardt, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday August 9, 2017.

The funeral will be at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral starting at noon. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.

Born November 23, 1926 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Lee Hoke and Nannie Linker Barnhardt.

Archie served in many ways. He was a World War II Veteran, a Deacon at Flow Harris Church, Board of Directors for the Parkwood Sanitary District, and was Vice-Chair for the Cabarrus County Commissioners.
He was a lifelong mechanical contractor and oversaw jobs like the Duke Hospital and RJ Reynolds renovation, and the actual building of the IBM Charlotte site. He spent a lifelong journey of learning. When he retired at age 57, he took up wood working and began building beautiful walnut furniture for his family and friends to enjoy. His dedication to perfection was always present in everything he did. When he became a County Commissioner, he would take time to visit sites, truly understand what was being asked of the county, and worked to ensure that what was in the best interest of the county and its people was the end result.

Archie loved God, his family, his friends, his garden, his books and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlene Fink Barnhardt; sons, Carl Lee and Olin Spencer Barnhardt; sisters, Muriel Campbell, Nannie Allen Bonds, Dill Barnhardt, Evonne Eudy; and brothers, Hoke, Woodrow, Ray and Burt Barnhardt.

He is survived by his daughter, Denise Sedberry and husband David from Troutman, NC; daughter-in-law, Cindy Barnhardt; grandsons, Travis and Brittany, Brandon and Amber, Caleb and Amber; great-grandsons, Wyatt, Easton, Jackson and Lucas; great-granddaughter, Ava; step-grandson, Andrew and Melanie; step great-grandsons, Addison and Ashe; and his best friends, Sharon Wright and Manuel Kiser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 6000 Fairview Road #305, Charlotte, NC 28210.
