Downing, Margot - passed peacefully Thursday August 10th, 2017 in her 80th year. Devoted wife of Donald Downing. Proud Mother of Catherine Reinhart (Doug), David Downing (Kerri) and Jeff Downing (Kim). Sister to Rudy Bats Voss (Deb). Loving Grandmother to Jordan (Ryan), Quinn, Lucas, Liam, Sarah, Chelsey (Marc), Jada, Josie, Matthew, Kaleigh, Chase and a special Great Grandmother to Ava. Predeceased by her granddaughter Kristi (2016). Margot had a life well lived. She was born in Indonesia to Josephine and Hendrick Bats. Margot was a prisoner of war in a Japanese concentration camp for the duration of WWII coming to Canada in 1951 and settling in Woodstock. Margot met her true love Don at WCI and they married in 1958. Margot was a devoted wife for 59 years and a loving mother. She enjoyed curling, crafts and volunteering at school functions and Operation Sharing. Friends are invited to join the family to celebrate Margot’s life at Church of the Epiphany, 560 Dundas St., Woodstock, on Friday August 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. Interment later in the Anglican Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Church of the Epiphany Elevator Fund would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-539-0004. For the past 15 years Margot was a resident at the Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock and was extremely well cared for by her Personal Support Workers, Nurses and staff. She loved them all dearly. Margot will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
