Autherine (Rene) Houts passed from this world Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the age of 90 in Merkel, Texas.
Rene was born September 20, 1026 in Beasley, Texas. She was raised in Los Angeles, California by an aunt and uncle, Howard and Martha Childers. Her grandparents were Christian and Matilda Blaskowsky. She married Veldon Houts on December 25, 1946 in Raymondville, Texas.
She loved to read, teach Bible class and enjoyed watching and being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked as a school librarian, which she considered a dream job. She and Veldon shared a fantastic life of RV traveling throughout the United States and Canada while they made a lifetime full of memories.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Veldon; a daughter, Velda Dee (Jimmy) Goldsmith of Merkel; a son, Steven (Linda) Houts of Cypress, Texas; three grandchildren, Jayma (Jason) Strong of Missouri, Justin (Tara) Goldsmith of Celina, and Janae (Derek) Dye of Cedar Hill; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryker, Cortland, Liviya, Makai, Jaxson, Whitman and Nixie.
A small family memorial will be held in September at the family home in Whitney, Texas.
