Obituary for Max Dennis Wiggins, Sr.

Smithfield

Max Dennis Wiggins, Sr., 82, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017, after a brief illness. Born in Bryson City, NC, he was the son of the late Mae Seay and Andrew Davis Wiggins. A former resident of York County, for 30 years, Max had lived in Smithfield since 1983. He was owner/operator of Wiggins Appliance Repair and retired as a electrician supervisor, X-31, Newport News Shipbuilding after 26 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Max is preceded by siblings, Lloyd and A.D. Wiggins and Elsie Mae Charleston and his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Manning Wiggins. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Max Dennis 鈥淒enny鈥 Wiggins, Jr. and his wife, Linda and Thomas 鈥淭ommy鈥 Wiggins and his wife, Missy; and stepdaughter, Terry Clark; five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar and Lyle Wiggins and Bobby Alford; and a host of extended family and friends.

Max will be remembered as a loyal, hardworking man, devoted his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his reason for living. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the old Westerns starring the likes of John Wayne, Arty Murphy, and Jimmy Stewart. He was a life NRA member and served his country in the US Navy. He was a former member of St. Luke鈥檚 United Methodist Church and presently a member of Bacon鈥檚 Castle Baptist Church.

A service celebrating Max鈥檚 life will be held 3pm, Friday, August 25, 2017 in Uzzell United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Payne and Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 2-3 pm for visitation prior to the service and at a reception following the services in the church social hall.
