Obituary for Reszö Miklos "Ralph" Gracza

Rezsö (Ralph) Miklos Gracza died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at LifeCare Roseau Manor, a warm and loving community of care providers for the elderly. Ralph was born in Györ, Hungary, on June 7, 1921, to Zsuzsanna (Molnár) and Károly Gracza. In November 1943, Ralph completed his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Budapest. Due to the impending Russian invasion in December 1944, Ralph migrated to Germany with his sister, Erzsi and wife, Saci. Along the way Saci gave birth to their daughter, Susie, in a barn. Ralph delivered Susie himself as there was no physician or midwife available. Ralph worked for the Americans, in a resettlement center, in Germany, as a garage and maintenance chief. He eventually emigrated in June, 191, through Ellis Island, to the U.S.A. Ralph worked as a chemical engineer for the Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis and was very proud of the fact that he helped develop the flour which ensured the stability of the very famous Pillsbury crescent rolls. In 1959 Ralph met and married Margaret Ann Young, an artist and Fulbright Scholar. In August of 1962, their son, Edward, was born. Ralph’s life was replete with pottery making, book writing, entertaining friends and family at the summer home on Lake Minnetonka, and volunteering with the Minnesota Hungarians. In his retirement Ralph continued to write, and sing in the Minnetonka Symphony Chorus. He further developed his love of cooking, entertaining many friends and family with his famous soups and his lively stories. After a stroke in 2012, he moved to Roseau to be closer to his son and his family. Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Margaret and his sister, Erzsi, and his brothers-in-law, Lyle and Mark Young, and is survived by his daughter, Susie Moscovich (Michael), grandsons, Dan Ryan (Vicky) and Ben Ryan (Rachel), son Edward (Jane), grandchildren Philip, Rose (Cody), Gabriel and great grandchildren Ethan and Dylan Ryan and Charlotte Ryan. He also leaves behind brothers-in-laws, Robert Young and Jim Young (Joyce) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was a force of nature and will be great missed, but never forgotten. Rezsöe’s family would like to thank Dr. Ralph Herseth and all the wonderful staff at LifeCare Roseau Manor for their excellent care for him in his last five years. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 8 at 11:00am at Huber Funeral Home Chapel, 16394 Glory Lane, Eden Prairie, with burial and a reception to follow. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Minnesota Hungarians, 11705 Live Oak Drive, Minnetonka, MN 55305.
