Obituary for William Russel "Rusty" Darnel

William Russel "Rusty"  Darnel
William R. “Rusty” Darnel, 87, Independence, MO passed away Sept. 11, 2017. Service will be 10 am, Monday, Sept. 18 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; interment at Swan Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 6 pm Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to First Christian Church of Independence, 125 S. Pleasant St, Independence, MO 64050. Rusty was born March 31, 1930 in Adair County, MO and graduated from Kirksville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. He moved to Independence in 1953, was an industrial painter for fifty-four years and owned Newton Painting Company for over twenty years before retiring in 2007. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was business manager for Painters District Council Local #9 and a member of the VFW, American Legion Post #21, the PDCA and Builder’s Association. He loved to fish and owned a retreat at the Lake of the Ozarks for thirty-one years. Rusty was preceded in death by son William Michael Darnel. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years Henrietta Darnel, of the home; daughters Connie Barker, Lee’s Summit, MO; Sherry Moran, Independence, MO; Darla Wagner, Sibley, MO; Shelley Austin; son Jeff Darnel, both of Independence, MO; brother Eldon Darnel, Kirksville, MO; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
