Linda Barbara Rose Filipkowski, 65, of Scranton passed away on Sept. 19th at Abington Manor after courageously battling colon cancer. She was the wife of her loving husband, John Filipkowski. They were married for 33 years.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Ralph and Barbara (Maus) Rose, Linda was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. She received her RN Diploma from Community Medical Center, a BSN from University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from SUNY – Binghamton. Linda utilized her skills during the North America Tour Camp and while practicing in Philadelphia at HUP, Public Health Nursing, and St. Agnes School of Nursing. After returning home to Scranton, Linda served as a nursing instructor at CMC, Marywood University, and at Penn State University – Worthington/Scranton. Linda is best remembered for providing home health care during her mom’s illness until her passing in 2004.
Linda cherished time with her family and friends while coordinating events to bring loved ones together. She was known for her keen memory and the personalized touch she added on correspondence. Linda demonstrated her compassionate heart by helping others before assistance was asked for. She had a beautiful soprano voice and belonged to Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to thank the health care teams at Abington Manor, Geisinger CMC, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the excellent care given to Linda.
Surviving is her husband, John Filipkowski; daughter, Christa Filipkowski; first cousin, Carol Hicks and husband, Roy; sister-in-law, Patricia Filipkowski and companion, Dave Harvey; brother-in-law, Michael Filipkowski and wife, Mary Jean; a niece, Jenna Mott and husband Jason; a nephew, Michael Filipkowski and wife, Danielle; three great nephews, and numerous cousins.
Those wishing to honor Linda’s memory are invited to visit Miller Bean Funeral Home, 436 Cedar Ave, Scranton, PA 18505 on Saturday, Sept. 23rd from 9 to 11 AM. A service will be celebrated at Miller Bean following the viewing at 11 am. Interment to follow in Pittston Avenue Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Linda’s memory to the Colon Cancer Alliance organization.
