Obituary for Marion Earl "Bud" Black

Marion Earl "Bud"  Black
Marion E. (Bud) Black, age 90, of Muncie, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 closely following the death of his wife of 67 years, Agnes L. (Aggie) Black who passed away on August 4, 2017.
Bud was born in Delaware County on March 2, 1927 to Glenn & Nellie (Boots) Black. He attended Ball State Teachers College and received a BS in Elementary Education and a Masters in Elementary Administration. Bud began his teaching career in Albany and was the Albany Elementary principal from 1950 – 1959. He continued as an elementary principal in the Muncie Community School Corporation beginning in 1960 and retiring from there in 1989. He was a soft spoken and beloved leader at McKinley, Claypool, West View, Roosevelt, Lincoln and had the honor of opening the then new Southview Elementary in 1980. Bud had been the President of the 4th District of Elementary Principals and was also named Principal of the Year in the 4th District.

During the summers he was the Camp Director at Camp Isanogel, the Delaware County camp for special needs students; he served in this position for 20 years. He also was the Past President of the Delaware County Society for Handicapped Children, Past President at the Albany Lions Club, Trustee for six years for the Moose Lodge and received an honorary Fellowship Degree. In addition, Bud was the President of the Hamilton Park Association for 31 years. Bud loved all sports but primarily, fishing, baseball, basketball and NASCAR. Nothing made “Blackie” happier than sitting down with his card-playing buddies at the Moose. Bud proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, being stationed in Washington D.C.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife and parents, his twin sister Meriam Bishop and his sister Clarabel Burt.
Surviving Bud are his three children: Lynn (Julie) Black, Michelle J. Hummer and Derek (Laurie) Black as well as three grandchildren: Andrew (Sarah) Black, Lauren (Daniel) Mowrey, James Cassidakis and two great-granddaughters; sister-in-law and best friend Charlotte Mackin and her daughter Kim (Robert) Hodge and their daughters Erin, Emily and Adriane.

The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Choudhury, Dr. Quraishi, and Dr. Khan for their persistence, respect and patience treating Bud along with the staff at AMG Specialty Hospital at Ball Memorial. In addition, the staffs at Westminster Village and Great Lakes Caring for the loving care they provided Bud as he transitioned from this life to the next. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bud’s memory to Special Olympics Delaware County.

Calling for Bud and Aggie will be from 11:30 am 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 24 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N State Road 3, Muncie, IN 47303. A Memorial Service will follow at 4 pm. Gethsemane United Method Church, 1201 W McGalliard Rd, Muncie, IN 47303, where Bud was a member, will host family and friends following this service. The Burial ceremony will be Monday, September 25 at 11:00 am at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard.
