The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Arnold Hoppenstedt can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: I knew Arnie from 1982-5 when we were in the same Theology classes at the Pontifical University of St Thomas in Rome. I remember some fine times at many events around the city that we both attended, and having some long talks and funny stories before and after classes. I lost track of Arnie when I left Rome in 1985, married, and spent the next 30 years raising my children. I'll always remember Arnie as part of the good times long past.

Condolence: Arnie's absence leaves a huge hole in our lives. But we're stuck on Earth on Good Friday and he's on Easter Sunday. We can't see that from our vantage point until Sunday comes for us, too.

I will miss his jokes and his voice. He gave me rides to / from choir in 2012 after my mom had surgery, and he gave me rides home from choir parties and to / from some festival events my mom's car couldn't have made it to. He was such a great guy.

I actually have a video of Arnie doing what Arnie was good at-- telling a joke. Please excuse the jumpy picture, I was trying to keep it cropped so only he is in frame. I took it at a choir party in 2013 and kept it on my computer...and now I'm glad I kept it. (I hope the video uploads...hopefully it's there!)

Arnie, you are missed!

Condolence: Arnie was a longtime and dear friend. We met through St. Norbert's Choir, where he was church Cantor and a valued tenor/bass. He & I have shared many adventures together, from helping him move, visiting Disneyland and shopping for a new 'signature' Fedora hat. I've saved every special card he gave me; Arnie's Valentine's and Birthday cards were simply the best. With tearful gratefulness, I'll deeply miss his enduring friendship. I'll relive many times the breakfasts after mass at Polly's, his incomparable jokes, our often hysterically funny Skipbo Saturday nights at Sheila Donegan's, his techno-tips, attending openings of a new Harry Potter series movies, his Latin interpretations, his German accent when quipping at me, and a thousands other "Arnie-isms." The loss of his Cantorship at church, will feel as if one of the masts has fallen. I allign my broken heart with so many, mourning the loss of a unique man, a loveable character, a one of a kind dear heart.
