Obituary for Emile Robert Masschelein

Emile Robert Masschelein
Masschelein – Emile Robert Cornelis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Country Manor in Thedford in his 89th year on Thursday, October 5th, 2017.

Emile and his beloved wife Irene of 65 years, raised their family of 3 boys and 3 girls, Theresa & Michael Hope, John & Gudrun Masschelein, Beatrice Masschelein († 2015) & Frank Fisher, Cecile & John Muller, Joris & Connie Masschelein, Ron & Laurie-Ann Masschelein. Predeceased by infant children Anne († 1953), Joseph († 1961) and Gerard († 1964). Grandfather of 24 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren. Brother of Joe & Diane Masschelein. Predeceased by siblings Godelieve & Leon Vanheule, Rachel & Joe Kennes, Robert Masschelein, Parents Silveer & Irma Masschelein.

A man very proud of his Belgian heritage, and grounded deeply in his faith. Emile showed great courage leaving family and friends in Belgium at the age of 19, leading the way for his family and future generations when he came to Canada in 1948. Emile and Irene met in Parkhill, Canada, starting out in British Columbia, and later moved to Ontario where they worked side by side on their Dairy Farm, Maple Lane Farms in McGillivray Twp. Whistling and singing around the farm, Emile was a valued member of his church choir, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A legacy of faith, generosity and courage has been left for his future generations as he lived out these attributes in his everyday life.

Visitation will take place at M.Box & Son Funeral Home, 183 Broad St. in Parkhill on Monday October 9th from 4pm-7pm with prayers at 3:30pm. A Holy Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 159 Ann Street Parkhill, on Tuesday, October 10th at 11am with Father Tony Laforet officiating. Interment to follow at the Parkhill Cemetery.

Donations in Emile’s name are appreciated to the organization Development and Peace, an organization commited to caring for those in need. www.devp.org
