The Rev. Dr. August Louis Sorvillo
Born January 15, 1938 – Died October 2, 2017

August was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He is predeceased by his immigrant parents August Ugo and Louise Sorvillo, and his brothers Joseph and John Sorvillo.
Fr. Augie leaves behind his wife of 55 yrs. Shirley Joan Hodges, his sons, The Rev. Dr. James and his wife Debra and their sons Michael and James and his wife Shannon and their son Cooper, Robert and his wife Erin, and their sons, Cole and Simon, William, and Natalee Scott, also his nephew Joseph, and great nephews Christopher and August.
Fr. Augie came to Miami, FL in 1958 and went into the Marine Corps in 1959. He met Shirley in February 1962, and they were married in June 1962. He was manager of Household Finance Corp. for 9 yrs. Before receiving the call from our Lord. He then attended Nashotah House Seminary in 1970, and was ordained into the Episcopal Church in 1973. He later received his Doctorate from Pittsburgh Theological in 1991. He served as Curate at St. Barnabas, Deland, then Vicar of Gloria Dei Cocoa, Florida for 7 yrs. He was called to St. James Ormond Beach and served for 21 yrs. until his retirement. He was very active in the Diocese, serving as President of the Standing Committee the Diocesan Board, and the Cursillo Commission.
As a retired priest, he served several churches including St. Barnabas, Deland, Christ Church, Covington, LA, Trinity Church, Baton Rouge, LA and St. Mary’s, Daytona Beach, until 2013.
Fr. Augie was full of love, laughter, giving of himself to serve others. His smile was infectious and his presence could fill a room. His funeral will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Ormond Beach, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm with the Rt. Rev. Gregory Brewer officiating. In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests donations be made in Augie’s name to either, Family Renew or St. James Memorial Fund.
