Obituary for Irene Martin (Sprouse)

Irene S. Martin, 75, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Heritage Hall in Blackstone, Virginia. Born June 25, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Ermie H. Sprouse, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Carter W. Martin, Sr.; four brothers; and two sisters. Irene worked many different retail jobs throughout her life, but her main focus was her family and home. She is survived by her sons, Carter W. Martin, Jr., David A. Martin and wife, Barbara; daughter, Linda F. Adams and husband, Thomas; five grandchildren, Lisa Jenkins-Kosinski and husband, Steve, Ted A. Adams, Mary M. Momme and husband, Scott, Robert Martin, Tami M. Wood and husband, Robert; two great-grandchildren, Luke Momme and Maci Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 in Southlawn Memorial Park, with the Reverend David Prather officiating. The family will receive friends at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, on Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a procession leaving the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
