Obituary for Susan Cecile Rioux (McIntosh)

Susan Cecile Rioux, 73, of Nashua, NH, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.

Susan was born July 5, 1944 in Arlington, MA. She was the daughter of Clarence “Red”, and Ruth (Keene) McIntosh. Susan had just celebrated 54 years of marriage with her husband, Ronald, with whom she had been sweethearts with since high school. Before her retirement, Susan worked for Rivier College in the department of admissions. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

Susan was first, and foremost, a mother. Not only to her three sons, but to many of their friends as well. When you were at her house, you were treated like family. This welcome extended out to many areas, including “the look” she would be happy to give any one of them if she felt they needed a nudge on their grades, or her opinion about their latest dumb idea. She was also a dedicated Nana-Banana, never missing the opportunity to attend a school concert, or dance recital. Susan was creative at crafts such as needlepoint, knitting, hooking and crewel. Her many creations are now in the hands of the family and friends for whom they were made.

Susan was an organ donor, and encouraged others to be as well. She is survived by her loving husband, as well as her two sons, and their families, Joseph Rioux and Samantha Connors, of Nashua, and David Rioux and his wife Mary, of Manchester; three grandchildren, Amelia, Eleanor and Peter Rioux, all of Manchester; her sister Jane Santos and her husband Joseph, of Bridgewater, MA; her brother Robert A. McIntosh Sr. and his wife Constance, of Nashua; and her brother-in-law Lucien Rioux and his wife Margaret, of Ogunquit, ME as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Daniel George Rioux.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH 03064. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Rd., Nashua, NH 03062. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may meet at the church. A private graveside service will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Hudson, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s loving memory to: Home Health and Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Dr., Merrimack, NH 03054 or to the Humane Society of Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Rd, Nashua, NH 03064.
