Obituary for Martha Groves Burnett
Martha Groves Burnett, 84, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son in law in Hawkinsville, Ga. on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Lindale Methodist Church, 3401 Maple Road Lindale, Ga. 30147.
Martha was born in Lindale, Ga., the only child of the late Mark C. Groves and Ruth Durham Groves. She attended school in Floyd County, graduating high school at Stratford Hall in Danville, Va. After working in administration at Lockheed Martin, Martha returned to Berry College and pursued a teaching degree. She later received her Masters from West Georgia College in Carrollton, Ga. Her teaching career spanned from Polk County to Coffee County and finally to Cherokee County, where she taught special education until her retirement.
Ms. Burnett was a member of the Lindale Methodist Church and was faithful in her attendance of Sunday School and Church.
After selling the family home in Lindale, Martha moved to Winthrop Court Senior Living in Rome, Ga. where she had many friends and enjoyed the “hustle” and “bustle” of her daily routine.
In January 2017 after a cancer diagnosis she moved to Hawkinsville, Ga. to live with her daughter and son in law. After a successful cancer treatment which ended May 2017, she began to suffer heart problems which ultimately lead to her death.
Ms. Burnett is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Lindley Papizan (Ron) of Hawkinsville, Ga.; Katherine Gossett (Ricky Fejfar) of Rome, Ga. six grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Kaepernick of Milwaukee, WI; Brandi Cannon(Zane) of Rome, Ga.; Brooke Cox of Rome, Ga. Corine Lindley Watson(Nate) of Macon, Ga.; Mary Grace Lindley of Greensboro, Ga.; 2nd Lt. Gray Lindley, U.S. Marine Corps.; 4 great grandchildren ; Abby, Erika, and Jacob Kaepernick of Milwaukee, WI; Stella Spriggs, Rome, Ga.
