Obituary for Helen Josephine Harlow (Baumgartner)

Helen Josephine Harlow (Baumgartner)
Helen J. Harlow, 83, entered peacefully into eternal life on October 23, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, at the home she shared with her daughter Kristy and her family. Her family, friends, and devoted grand-dog Beaujolais were at her side, at the time of her passing.

Helen was born in Niskayuna, NY on October 1, 1934 to Joseph and Anna (Rostkowski) Baumgartner. She graduated from Resurrection High School, and went on to study education at Fordham University. Afterward, she worked as a Kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s school in Schenectady. Helen later worked as a newspaper layout designer for the Schenectady Gazette. And, for a time, she was also a Unit Secretary at St. Clare’s Hospital. Helen was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Church in Schenectady.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years, Elwyn Walter Harlow, her parents, and her brother Alexander Baumgartner.

Helen is survived by her daughters: Kristy M. (John) Losee of Rotterdam, and Terry L. Harlow of Ballston Lake; and her grandson Christopher A. Losee of Rotterdam. She is also survived by two aunts, several cousins, and her faithful grand-dog Beaujolais.

Helen’s family would like to thank Community Hospice for their kindness, support, and for making our last memory of her one of dignity and grace.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, October 26th at the Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. A visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 to 12 noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam.

Please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern NY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
