Obituary for Richard Aldo McKinley

Richard Aldo McKinley, 80, of Hopewell passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born May 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Hoke and Wanda McKinley, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Pearl McKinley. Richard was a member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg. After 26 years of proud and dedicated service to his country, he retired from the United States Army. He received his Masters of Education in 1985 and was an instructor at the Richmond Technical Center for 20 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Prince George Masonic Lodge #115, the American Legion, American Culinary Federations, and Bent Barrell Hunt Club for 35 years. He is survived by his daughter, Lorena D. Shumate; sons, Robert E. McKinley and wife, Donna, Richard A. McKinley; grandchildren, Kelly Lynn, Daniel Shumate, Heather McKinley, Brittani Heare and husband, Jonathan, Robert D. McKinley; eight great-grandchildren; and brother Robert B. McKinley and wife, Sandra. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805, with the Reverend Duane Gurdy officiating. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Monumental Baptist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
