Obituary for John Howard Emory

John Howard Emory, 68, slipped away to be with the Lord on October 30, 2017. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, volunteer firefighter, and a former member of Rolling Thunder VA5. He is survived by his daughter, Julia Hudson and her husband, Keith; three grandchildren, Olivia, Victoria, and Keith, Jr. and his wife, Emily; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; my sisiter, Connie Fowser and her daughters, my heart-sister, Pam Kissner and her family, his dear friend, Pam Jerratt, and many other friends who knew and loved him; a pack of heart-broken chihuahuas, and me – his wife – Linda, the girl with the Johnny-shaped hole in her heart. Johnny was the Love of My Life for the last 40 years and my husband for the last 18. He was funny and warm and loving and charming and opinionated. He loved animals, especially chihuahuas, and football, racing, and me, maybe in that order. We had our moments, of course – he was a man – but he was my soulmate from the first day I met him. At his request, Johnny will be cremated and eventually reside at our only piece of waterfront property – a bench overlooking the pond at Southlawn that he designed himself to honor his firefighting days with the Carson VFD Substation 3. In the meantime, he will just stay in our home with me. We will have a Memorial Service – no, a Celebration of his wonderful life – on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with a visitation between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and the service taking place at 7:00 p.m., and we’d love for you to join us. Feel free to share stories, memories, and photos if you have them. He’s in Your hands now, dear Lord. Please take care of him until I get there. Love you more, dear Johnny. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Johnny’s memory to the Carson Volunteer Fire Department, Halifax Road, Carson, Virginia 23830.
