Obituary for Edward D Smith Jr.
Edward D. Smith Jr., MSGT., USMC (RET), 63, of Scranton died Tuesday November 7, 2017 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit.
Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Edward D. and Elizabeth Ruschak Smith.
Edward grew up in Scranton and attended Lackawanna Trail High School.
He joined the Marine Corps. in 1973 and was a veteran of the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. His personal decorations include: The Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Marine Corp Drill Instructor Ribbon.
Edward’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of their compassionate and loving care.
Edward is survived by a sister Joan Krieg; brother Joseph Smith and numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Delores Smith and a great-nephew Ryan Bruzgulis.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser as officiant. Interment with military honors will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
